What to Expect
Please read the following carefully before scheduling an appointment.
Because our schedule is based on certain allotments of time for each appointment it is extremely important that you arrive a few minutes early. There will be a good amount of paperwork to fill out in advance to help the doctor get a complete picture of your pet’s history.
We strongly recommend an hour-long consultation for first-time patients with any chronic health issues as the doctor will be unable to thoroughly develop a plan if she has limited time to do so. Holistic medicine entails going over all information about the pet’s lifestyle, diet, preferences, vaccination history, and historical ailments that a conventional veterinarian may not feel are important to your pet’s current state, but from a holistic perspective they are important. This can take a lot of extra time compared to a quick in and out 15-minute appointment at most veterinary hospitals.
After the initial consultation, follow-ups may be scheduled for 15-30 minutes depending on your preference and the amount of questions you may have for the doctor.
In most cases, we may need to see your pet back in one week to one month depending on the treatments used and their condition. Once your pet’s condition is improved and stable, the frequency of necessary visits will decrease and may only be once every 6 months. In order to continue to prescribe supplements and medications, we must see your pet at the very least once every 6-12 months.
At the conclusion of the first visit, you will receive a written plan including information on tests performed, results if any are available, and any recommendations. A staff member will go over this plan with you to make sure everything is clear and if not will have the doctor get in touch with you to clarify and follow up care will be scheduled.
We require a 24-hour prescription refill notice if you are picking up medications at the hospital. Under special circumstances, prescriptions can be filled with short notice for a nominal fee. Medications set up for mailing are processed weekly (not daily). We do not have FedEx services available. Please call in your prescriptions at least 2 weeks in advance if you are having them mailed to you. Once you have purchased medication for your pet, we are unable to provide refunds or exchanges.
